St Michaels Grave (Bute) Traditional Geocache

One of five 'new' Billy Twigger caches placed as part of the BTBC (Billy Twigger Bute Challenge). All five caches are close to sites where Billy Twigger caches have been previously (and are now archived).
The sixth in the Bute Archaeology Geocache series takes us on an journey to St. Michaels Grave
Park at N55 52.017 W5 11.397 and walk up the farm track to the cache site.
This a single track and is very muddy in places so boots/wellies are a must. The track bears the scars of all the tractors that use it. You may be tempted to take your car (despite the Farm Access Only sign) but you will either get stuck in the mud, or face an oncoming tractor.
The muddy bits aren't that pleasant, but the overall walk is lovely as you get stunning views over the western stretch of the Kyles of Bute. Inchmarnock and Arran to the south, and the towns of Kames and Tighnabruach to the north.
St Michaels Grave is alittle further on from that cache at N55 53.045 W5 12.466 It’s not actually St Michaels Grave, but a collapsed Neolithic burial cairn, which has been named after the much later early Christian occupation of the area.
The old kirk at N55 53.185 W5 12.694 is well worth a visit if you are up for it. There are gates at N55 53.179 W5 12.457 and N55 53.297 W5 12.535. Look for the iron gravestones under the tree.
