We participated in the President's Day
weekend Youth Jamboree at Park Moabi on
the Colorado River. This event included
a canoe trip down the Colorado River
through Topock Gorge and the Havasu
National Wildlife Refuge. The event is
organized by Jerkwater Canoe and Kayak Co.
and they did
an outstanding job. Check them out.
The only reasonable way to get to this
cache is via the river. Once you pass
under the I-40 bridge, there's no way
out until you get to Castle Rock just
north of Lake Havasu (17 miles on the
river). The area has fantastic scenery
and is well worth the trip. The cache
itself is located on the Arizona side
across a big bay from Pulpit Rock. It's
located about 20-30 feet up a hillside
(be careful climbing up and back down).
It's in a small hole under a rock and
surrounded with rocks so it's only visible
once you're almost on top of it. It's a
small ammo can and contains the usual cache
stuff.
This area gets *H*O*T* in the summer.
If you're going in a canoe or kayak
(recommended) then do it in the cooler
months. If you use a motorized craft
(not recommended) then summer is ok.
Terrain rating is assuming you paddle
into the area. It's not that hard but it
is 17 river miles.
