Geocache Description:

Join us on a hike to Monte Cristo.

We belong to a group that goes out night caching on a semi-regular basis and we decided to hike up to Monte Cristo. We have been planning this for over two months now, and we are getting more and more people asking us about the hike. So we decided to turn it into an official event.

Here are the details:

Meet at the listed coordinates at 10:00 am on Saturday Sept. 17.
Bring food and water for your entire party.
Good hiking/walking shoes/boots are strongly encouraged.
Bicycles, and pets are welcome.
Keep in mind, this is a long hike (8 miles round trip).
Not much of an incline, this is an old railroad grade.

We are planning on taking our time getting up to Monte Cristo, having some lunch, doing some site seeing around the old town, and recuperating for the hike back to the cars.

Please keep in mind that this is a long hike and may not be suitable for younger children.

A Northwest Forest Pass is required for parking at the trailhead, so people should look into carpooling. You can buy an Annual pass for $30 from REI, online, or at ranger stations. You can also buy a day pass for $5 from the Verlot Ranger Station on the way up to the trailhead.
