Oh Buoy, Sable Island Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Silly searchers: Unfortunately, Zoe Lucas confirmed that this cache is no longer in place. Maybe the buoy is laying in the grassy dunes or is floating in the ocean. Perhaps it will even be found sometime down the road, I can hope. In any case, I am thankful for being able to place it there in the first place. Happy caching!

Geocache Description:

In celebration of my 50th birthday, 6 close friends/family and I had the great fortune of spending a day on Sable Island located 300kms off the coast of Nova Scotia. An unbelievable experience!!!! We owe an ocean of gratitude to our hosts, Gerry Forbes and Zoe Lucas. We were treated like royalty for a day.

With permission, I placed a cache. Sable Island was very dear to my father's heart. So to take a little of him with us I used one of the lobster trap buoys he painted for the cache by hollowing out a hole in it big enough to fit a small container. The buoy is bright orange and tied to one of the many old telegraph poles that still stands in the dunes. Inside are three key chains with a little bag piper and an engraved tag and a log book. I realize that this cache may not be visited often or if ever, but by placing it there it may entice someone to go and discover a gem on the edge of the continental shelf. Pictures of the island are magnificent but you have to set foot on it to truly appreciate the magic and beauty it holds. For more information on the island check out www.greenhorsesociety.com
