Die Insel Korfu ist die nördlichste, der zu Griechenland gehörenden Ionischen Inseln. Jedoch war sie nicht immer eine Insel und gehörte in früheren Zeiten zum Festland. Erst vor ca. 9000 Jahren wurde die Insel Korfu durch das Ansteigen des Meeresspiegels vom Festland getrennt.
In der Zeit vor der Trennung wurde die heutige Insel durch Jäger und Sammler besiedelt.
Die Grava Gardikiou ist eine interessante kleine Höhle, in der Werkzeuge, Feuersteine und Tierknochen gefunden wurden. Archäologische Untersuchungen ergaben, daß sie aus dem Oberen Paläolithikum (20.000 v. Chr.) stammen. Im Innern der Höhle gibt es tolle Steinformationen.
The island of Corfu is the northernmost island of the Greek Ionian Islands. However, Corfu was not always an island. In former times it was part of the mainland, until about 9000 years ago the sea level began to rise and Corfu became an island.
In the period before its separation, the region of Corfu was inhabited by hunters and gatherers.
The Gardikiou Grava is an interesting and small cave, where tools, firestones and animal bones were found. Archaeological investigations have shown that they originate from the Paleolithic Period, the Old Stone Age (20,000 BC). Inside the cave there are great rock formations.
Um diesen Earthcache zu loggen begebt Euch zum Start bei N 39°28.688 E 019°52.873. Dort findet Ihr eine schon recht verblasste Infotafel. In der Nähe könnt Ihr am Straßenrand parken.
Über Wegpunkt 1 (N 39°28.722 E 019°52.895) und Wegpunkt 2 (N 39°28.740 E 019°52.887) gelangt Ihr zum Höhleneingang bei N 39°28.757 E 019°52.910.
To log this Earthcache start at N 39°28.688 E 019°52.873. There you will find a faded information board. It is possible to park your car nearby at the roadside.
Follow Waypoint 1 (N 39°28.722 E 019°52.895) and Waypoint 2 (N 39°28.740 E 019°52.887) to get to the cave entrance at N 39°28.757 E 019°52.910.
Um diesen Earthcache zu loggen erfüllt folgende Aufgaben:
1. Am Start findet Ihr eine sehr verblasste Infotafel. Da man dort nichts mehr lesen kann gibt es eine neue Aufgabe (ab 21.10.2018). Auf der anderen Straßenseite ist ein Schild (siehe Bild: Spoiler - new Task 2018). Welches Datum steht auf dem Schild?
2. Welche Höhe zeigt Euer GPS am Höhleneingang an?
3. Stellt Euch in die Höhle, macht eine Zeichnung vom Höhlenausgang und hängt es an Eurem Log an!
4. Über ein Foto von Euch in der Höhle (freiwillig) würden wir uns freuen.
Sendet uns die Antworten zu 1 & 2 über unser Profil zu und schreibt sie nicht in den Log. Mit dem Abschicken der Antworten an meine eMail kannst Du den Logeintrag machen. Wenn Ihr etwas falsch beantwortet haben solltet dann melde ich mich bei Euch.

In order to log this cache, you need to complete the following tasks:
1. At the start you will find a very faded information board. Since there is nothing to read there is a new task (from 21.10.2018). There is a sign on the oter side of the street (look at the picture: Spoiler - new Task 2018) Whitch Date is on the sign?
2. What altitude shows your GPS device at the entrance of the cave?
3. Enter the cave, draw a picture of the exit and attach it to your log.
4. We are looking forward to pictures of you in the cave, but this point is optional.
Send us the answers to question 1 & 2 via our profile at geocaching.com. Please do not post the answers in your log!!! After submitting the responses to my email you can make the log entry. If you have something wrong answers should I sign up with you.
