Paleontologie
Paleontologie je veda o
minulych geologickych dobach, predmetem jejiho studia jsou
zkameneliny (fosilie). Studuje tedy vyvoj zivota v minulosti Zeme
zejmena na zaklade dochovanych zbytku organismu v zemske
kure.
Souradnice vas privedou do
opusteneho opukoveho lomu.
Vapnity jilovec az slinovec vznikly v
druhohorach (mezozoiku) obsahuje
zbytky tel rostlin a zivocichu v podobe zkamenelin.
Muzete zde
nalezt mlze rodu Inoceramus pravdepodobne
Inoceramus labiatus, ktery byl pomerne velky s hrubymi zebry
a zil na piscitych a bahnitych dnech tehdejsiho more. Dalsimi
castymi nalezy jsou schranky ramenonozcu (Cyclothyris) a
jezovek (Micraster).
Z mista je
pekny rozhled do udoli Kretinky s prehradou.

Paleontology
Paleontology is the study of past geological periods
whom subject is study of fossils.
It includes studying the evolution of life in the past, notably on
the basis of preserved remains of organisms in the
earth’s
crust.
The coordinates will take you to an abandoned marl
quarry.
The calcareous claystone (originated in the
Mesozoic) contains remains of plants and animals in the form of
fossils. There you may find a clam Inoceramus labiatus which
was relatively large having rough ribs and lived in sandy and muddy
bottoms of the past sea. Other common findings are brachiopod
shells (Cyclothyris) and sea urchins (Micraster).
There is a nice view into the valley with a dam
Kretinka.
Other fossils sites in region
of Letovice and Boskovice are:
Kladeruby a Kochov
- horizon and shale - ferns:
N 49° 33.675', E 16° 36.506'
Zbonek -
the richest deposits of Paleozoic (Permian) cockroaches were
discovered after mining the coal seam:
N 49° 31.230', E 16° 35.458'
Svitavka "Hradisko"
- Permian shale outcrops on the eastern slope of the hill - a
variety of fossils and arachnids:
N 49° 30.528', E 16° 36.106'
Bacov - "Na
Skalkach"/ "On the rocks" - amphibious
Permian ichthyosteigids (Discosaurisscus), fish and plants (a
natural monument):
N 49° 31.62', E 16° 38.16'
Obora "U
tramvaje"/"By
the Tram" - Permian
insects, ichthyosteigids a
plants:
N 49° 27.569', E 16° 36.129'
Obora "Maly Chlum"
- a dominant hill, marl and sandstone quarry, clams and urchins
similarly as in this location:
N 49° 27.093', E 16° 35.291'
Conditions for completing the
log:
To write valid “cache found” log send us the
answer to the following five questions and a photo. Please do
it via e-mail (GC-profile) and do not expect the log to be approved
immidiately. It means that you can log in “found” and
send your answers. Afterwards, we will check your work. If
something is not completed or valid we will contact
you.
Here are the questions:
1. What number has the rock
quarry on the default coordinates in the legend geological maps
1:50 000? The reference could be found in the
hint.
2. What is an approximate size of
Inoceramus labiatus.
3. Can
you guess a layer thickness of the site (the height of the slopes
in the photograph)?
4. The
stone walls have rusty red bearings of different sizes. What it
could be?
Fotohint rusty red bearings
Optional task
5.
Find voluntarily a fossil in a quarry and take a
photo of it (with your pointing finger.(
