UPDATE 08/08/10. I adopted this wonderful cache and wanted to keep it going for historic purposes. However, with the growing popularity of Geocaching, Griffith Park is FAR more cache rich than when it was placed, and many people do not realize the final location is actually at the very top of the mountain, behind the Hollywood sign. To encourage more finds, yet to keep the original cache active, I have posted the FINAL coords at the top of this page...
Be sure to bring Water and wear sturdy Hiking Boots. The trail is rough and you will spend at least a couple of hours, probably more, and gain at least 1000' of elevation on the round trip.
The coordinates given are at the base of a single track trail at the upper end of Wonder View Dr in Hollywood. You must walk on Wonder View Dr above Lake Hollywood Dr, as there is no parking beyond the intersection.
The name of the cache makes the general location of the final cache no secret, but it's a large area to search if you don't drop by the first waypoint and pick up the final coordinates. From the first waypoint, you should continue up the rough trail and along the ridge. When you get near the final, you will come to a chain link fence. Go left around the end of this fence and get on the paved road, as going right will put you in a restricted area. From here, the best route to the cache is an easy walk, so look around rather than following the arrow.
There are alternate trailheads for the final, but taking the direct route provides the most spectacular experience.
You can return the way you came, or you can take a alternate route which is also scenic but less remote. For this alternate route, set your GPSr on Hollywood Sign, go downhill on the paved roud, and stay to the right when most of the muggles go left. Stay on the road (don't follow the arrow) until you come to a large, pretentious gate on the road. While you can go around this gate -- the public passage is on the right -- and walk through the Hollywoodland subdivision, instead turn right toward the cache you have set, then stay on the dirt road, which is still Mulholland. Next head for Picture Perfect Hollywood Sign, then Howdy-Doo Hollywood, then ODS Lake Hollywood, then Jenny and Peter at Lake Hollywood, and back to parking. Find the caches or not, but use them for routing.
