Reading Park (and Play) Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

ThomasFamilyZA: Archived.

We can't get to all our caches to maintain them anymore, so are being more selective on which ones we replace.

Watch out for a new Reading Park II cache hopefully soon somewhere else though.

Geocache Description:

Learning to read is an important part of growing up. As much as our "Park (and Play)" series is about the fun in the parks, it is important for children to have others skills too

The provided coordinates do not take you to the cache location. You need to work out the coordinates using the information provided below to see which park you end up in.

Wikipedia explains that 'Reading' is a complex cognitive process of decoding symbols for the intention of constructing or deriving meaning (reading comprehension). It is the mastery of basic cognitive processes to the point where they are automatic so that attention is freed for the analysis of meaning. Reading is a means of language acquisition, of communication, and of sharing information and ideas. Like all language, it is a complex interaction between the text and the reader which is shaped by the reader’s prior knowledge, experiences, attitude, and language community which is culturally and socially situated. The reading process requires continuous practices, development, and refinement.

You need to work out which books are in this library to solve the final coordinates. Once you solve the title and author for each book, then using the correct character number of each title and author combination will give you the coordinates.

You will need to count a certain number of characters from the start of each title, including spaces, but excluding other punctuation such as apostrophes or full stops. A space is a zero, an A is a 1, a B is a 2, etc.

For example, 10th character in RAJ by WS would be the 10th character of "Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare", which is a space, and hence a zero. If you needed the 9th character, it would be the d and hence you use a 4.

The final coordinates are S26 AB.CDE E028 FG.HIJ where

A= value of 6th character in PP by JMB
B= value of 2nd character in TCON by CSL
C= value of 4th character in LWTF by NM
D= value of 5th character in AF by GO
E= value of 6th character in CTBC by AP

F= value of 9th character in TLOTR by JRRT
G= value of 30th character in HPATGOF by JKR
H= value of 13th character in LW by LMA
I= value of 2nd character in TAOHF by MT
J= value of 15th character in RC by DD

The cache is a magnetic L&L hidden at the final coordinates. Be aware of muggles around the park and in the houses opposite the park.
