Geocache Description:

Church Micro 2031...Westoning

This cache has been placed to bring you to the Church of St Mary Magdalene, Westoning. This church was the first stage of the archived multi-cache Flit Away. This was my second ever find and made me realise one of the great things about caching: exploring places on your doorstep that you wouldn't normally go to.

The cache is a plastic pot, a little larger than a 35mm film canister, only containing a log. You will need to bring your own writing implement.

Please note that the final cache is located outside the churchyard and is NOT accessible from inside the churchyard.

The church of St. Mary Magdalene is in the Early English style, and consists of chancel, nave, aisles, porch, and an embattled tower containing 5 bells, retuned and rehung 111 1893: it was beautifully restored in the year 1857, at a cost of about £2,000 : an organ has been presented by Major and Mrs. C. Campion, and a stained window as a memorial to the late lord of the manor and his wife. The register dates from the year 1560.

Please take time to explore the peace and tranquility, but please be respectful in the church and its grounds.

To find the location of the final cache, you previously had to find a bench in the churchyard dedicated to the staff of Steppingley Hospital. During 2014, the bench was replaced with a new one without a plaque. You now need to inspect the iron gates to the church porch. The gates have 3 horizontal lines of ornamental squares. The top line each have A 'petals'; the middle line each have B 'petals'; the lower line each have C circles. Then head off around the church in a clockwise direction until you reach the lightning conductor. This has several pinky-brown rubber/plastic clips each with D lightning symbols on them.

The final cache can be found at North 51 59.(B-C)(D+1)(A-1) West 000 30.(B-2)D(D-C)

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
