Close the Tršice village, near the dam, on the edge of the meadow and the forest there is monument on the place where aircraft‘s accident happened in 1948. The small aircraft of type M1-Sokol lost coordination due to the bad weather and crashed. During this event the pilot Miroslav Chalupnícek was killed.
In the 1948, when the Communists took over political authority in Czechoslovakia, pressure on opponents of the regime was increased. It caused high emigration wave. Approximately 150 – 200 000 people emigrated to the West. Some of them entered to the foreign espionage duty and returned to Czechoslovakia to perform espionage or military actions. However the most of emigrants stayed abroad and focused on their civil professions. They either did not participate in political resistance at all or just occasionally.
At the end of 1948 Miroslav Chalupnícek decided for emigration. Together with his colleague Ruda Stanek and four other pilots they scheduled commercial flight to Egypt, from where they did not planned to go back to their homeland.
On 30th of December 1948 all 6 pilots started on aircraft of type "Sokol" from the airport in Chocen. The weather forecast was favorable, and therefore their start was allowed. However, there was a confusion of weather reports between Hradec Kralové and Olomouc and therefore all 6 aircrafts came over Vysocina in a snowstorm and accordingly crashed. Chalupnícek’s and Stanek’s aircrafts were missing and there was not possible to localize them. Communist’s National Security supposed that they passed through the border and don’t report, because they decided to emigrate. About 10 days later a random walker recognized a hill covered by snow in a field near the forest and a lot of ravens around. He decided to check it little bit closer. Under the snow were wreckage and corpses of Stanek and his mechanic. Chalupnícek‘s plane with the remains of his body, almost completely torn by the forest animals, were found about a week later, means approximately 17 days after takeoff, on the edge of the forest near the Tršice village. At this place there is a small Monument in memory of this tragic historical event.
