Geocache Description:

A weekend of socializing and community education at Moss Rock Preserve. Saturday & Sunday, 10:00am-5:00pm

Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment.

Join us for our sixth year of having two days of fun, food and camaraderie at Moss Rock Preserve on November 5th and 6th.

The Alabama Geocachers Association (AGA) has really grown and many of us have never met. This will be a great time to get to know one another, sit and chat in the great outdoors, and introduce our game to lots of interested newcomers.

Heard about geocaching but not sure what it is all about? Geocaching activity in this area continues to grow and interest is high, so let's have a Meet and Greet and some Intro to Geocaching seminars for newcomers interested in our game.

Those who wish can then seek the many great real caches hidden throughout the park using your own or a loaner GPS that we will have available. We'll even teach you how to use your GPS!

Experienced cachers are invited to come hang out and help with the training and cache tours, and of course find the caches hidden here. We need some loaner GPS from you experienced hands to teach newcomers with and that they can use to hunt caches on their own.

Moss Rock Preserve in Hoover is one of Alabama's most beautiful places. Hiking trails, waterfalls, unique wooded boulder fields, rock climbing, picnic areas and terrain from the flat and level to that which will test your endurance!

Curious about how many geocaches are hidden in or near the preserve? Go to Geocaching.com (visit link) select Hide and Seek A Geocache and enter zip code 35226. At this moment there are 5,366 geocaches hidden within 100 miles of the preserve. Thousands are in interesting hidden places that you might not ever see if not for this game!

Newcomers and experienced cachers alike are encouraged to join our free internet discussion forum at DixieCachers.com the online home of the AGA. We have around 1316 members and have formed a statewide community online and off that you will enjoy.

Tell your story! Write a story that tells something about geocaching... anything will do, be it about why you like the game, an adventure you have had, this or another event that you attended on the free online magazine The Online Geocacher
