LWC: Borg's Corner Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

rrt.cacher: I hope to revive this cache some day. Currently, the cache area is under county ditching and debrushing activities, which have been suspended for the time being but are not complete. If I can find another location for the cache I will set it up again. In the meantime, sadly, it is out of commission.

Geocache Description:

History Cache in honor of the John and Olive Borg homestead.

Borg's homestead used to lie on the east side of the road about halfway between these coordinates and County Road 111. It's not possible to put a cache on the exact location of the homestead, because nothing is there but a large, privately-owned, field.

Things have changed a lot in the past 50 years. In the first mile south of Borg's Corner there were four homesteads. In the next couple miles there were several more. Now every one of them is gone. In most cases it's as if nothing was ever there; they've either been razed with the space now cultivated as fields, or they have been reclaimed by the forest.

This cache is one of a series of Lake of the Woods County History Caches being developed to memorialize events, locations, and people from Lake of the Woods County's past. Each cache contains several copies of a leaflet explaining some of the history of the area. Feel free to collect one of these from each cache–no trade necessary.
