De Gillebrook cache is een tochtje van ongeveer 1 km door een stukje natuurgebied midden tussen de N273 (Napoleonsweg) en industriegebeid Windmolenven in Haelen. Parkeerplaats in de buurt van waypoint 1.
The Gillebrook cache is a trip of about 1 km through a piece of nature in the middle of the N273 (Napoleonsweg) and industrial area in Windmolenven Haelen. Parkingplace near waypoint 1.
Het Gillebrook (Geylenbroek) is een prachtig stukje natuurgebied gelegen naast de N273 of te wel de Napoleonsweg. Het Gillebrook is waarschijnlijk een oeroude bedding van de maas of een zijarm daarvan. Het gebied is in de 19de eeuw doorsneden door de Napoleonsweg en de spoordijk. Men heeft toen getracht dit gebied in cultuur te brengen. De oudste probeersels waren grasland. Het gras was echter waardeloos en de koeien vermagerden op het land. Het stukje wat er nu nog ligt is niet door de mens ontgrond en daardoor is er een mooi moerasgebied ontstaan. Er komen vele soorten planten voor en het wemelt er van de dieren. Ondanks het drukke verkeer van de Napoleonsweg een rustpuntje voor iedere natuurgenieter.
De tocht begint bij waypoint 1. Ga dan de Geylenbroektunnel door en sla dan direct rechtsaf.
