Come ye, brave and daring cachers! Come ye, one
and all, and hear the proclamation spoken today! For today a new
quest has been presented before you. A Test of Terrain. Who will
meet the challenge?
A geocaching cache can be rated at any one of 9
different terrain ratings, ranging from a very easy 1 up to a very
difficult 5. The challenge set before you is simple yet daunting.
In one single day (12:00am to 11:59pm), find and log a cache at
each of the nine levels of terrain (1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5,
5).
Big Things
- The cache may be of any type that has a physical log
(traditional, mystery, mulitcache, letterbox, events, CITO). Caches
without physical logs such as virtual caches cannot be used in this
challenge.
- The difficulty rating of the cache does not matter at all. Just
the terrain rating.
- Caches can be anywhere in the world. You are not limited to
Minnesota caches.
- Previous finds do NOT count. All caches must be logged on one
day after 8/6/11.
- You need not find this cache on the same day you find your nine
caches. You may find your nine caches on one day, then come find
this cache at a later date.
- This cache can NOT be used for your 5-terrain cache. The
difficulty and terrain rating on this cache is for the difficulty
of the challenge. The actual cache rating is a 1.5/1.5.
- You may find as many other caches as you like on your test of
terrain day.
Little Things
- The terrain ratings of your nine caches on the day you found
them are the ones that matter. If you find a cache at a particular
rating, and that cache's rating is subsequently changed before you
find and log this cache, please make a note of it. Questionable
circumstances may lead to log deletions, though, so please keep the
spirit of the challenge in mind.
- Caches that have their terrain ratings changed for the sake of
helping people circumvent the spirit of the challenge or easy
caches purposely published at higher terrain ratings to circumvent
the challenge may not be used to qualify for this challenge. I
reserve final judgment in such cases. If you're not sure about a
particular cache, please feel free to contact me beforehand.
- You get bonus points if you can do this challenge "Ymir Style":
no extra hints or coattail rides on any puzzles involved; no phone
a friend or pre-hints on the finds, etc. Feel free to make a note
of that accomplishment if you can achieve it.
Logging
Certifying your qualifications by including in your log the date
you completed the challenge and the terrain rating, the GC number,
and the name for each of your nine caches. Alternatilvey, feel free
to make a bookmark list for this challenge and keep it active for
three months after you complete it. Here is a sample log:
On August 25, 2011, I found the following nine
caches to qualify for this challenge:
- 1.0 - GC1338H: Green Thumbs
- 1.5 - GC31JV9: Finding Neenah
- 2.0 - GC31EHE: Gray Catbird
- 2.5 - GC12HMY: Pin Dur
- 3.0 - GC2AKR8: Cannon Falls
- 3.5 - GC31PG7: tribute to water water
- 4.0 - GCHXB9: Mountain Goat
- 4.5 - GC2PBHM: 4 States in a Day Challenge
- 5.0 - GC22485: X-TREMELY EVIL
A Last Word
The goal of the challenge is to have fun and try something
challenging. Please keep the spirit of the cache in mind as you
seek to qualify. Good luck!
