We had originally wanted to place this cache further up the gorge but as the northern side of the river is a SSSI we have placed it on the south side closer to the road.
Less than 5 mins car to cache, a perfect 'Cache & Dash' but not to explore further would be a great shame.
After finding the cache you might want to explore further up the gorge, there is an intermittent path up the north side (the opposite side to the cache location)of the river. The gorge is not very long and the surprise at the end can be reached in around 10 mins.
WARNING!!! The ground alongside the river is extremely rocky and flood conditions make it even harder. Please wear appropriate footwear and know your own limitations! The terrain Grading for the walk up the gorge would be around 3.5. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! But it really is worth it!
Over millions of years the sand and gravel from Loch na Gainmhich (The Sandy Loch) has created this magical place. Completely hidden from travelers heading north and offering only the briefest glimpse to those heading south (and no-doubt their focus will be held by the impressive mountain of Quinaig on the other side of the road that beautifully dominates this part of Assynt).
We were going to write a long description of the wonders that await you here but have decided not to say anything other than the warning of the rough terrain. We really want to let you to fully enjoy the sense of awe-inspiring exploration and discovery! We have never seen or heard of this place mentioned in any guidebook, a truly secret wonderland! Let's keep it that way! ;o)
