Sverige var på slutet av 1800-talet ett typiskt jordbrukarland.
Ett förbättrande av jordbruket skulle hjälpa till att skapa arbete
och försörjning åt den befolkning som ständigt växte. Stadsnäring
var ännu inget man såg som någon idé. År 1889 upprättades
Lantbruksstyrelsen, som skulle vara ett ämbetsverk för att stödja
bland annat jordbruket.
Utbyte av idéer mellan länder gjorde att mekaniseringen av
jordbruket fick ett uppsving. Plogen, som var det viktigaste
redskapet vid bearbetning av jorden, var från början tillverkad i
trä men kom att utvecklas till en mångskärig järnplog. Från mitten
av 1800-talet fanns såmaskiner, men handsådd var ännu det
vanligaste fram till början av 1900-talet.
I Storbritannien och USA uppfann man på 1800-talet skärapparater
och självbindare som underlättade skördearbetet. Dessa banade väg
för slåtter, och maskinerna spreds över världen. Efter 1950 kom
skördetröskan snabbt att ersatta självbindaren.

livelihood for the population is constantly growing. In 1889
established Swedish Agricultural Board, which would be a government
agency to support including agriculture?
The exchange of ideas between countries meant that the
mechanization of agriculture was a boost. The plow, which was the
main tool in the processing of the soil, was originally made of
wood but was developing into an iron plow with many blades. From
the mid-1800s, there were drills, but hand-sowing was still the
most common until the early 1900's.
In the UK and the U.S. invented it in the 1800s harvester and
binder which facilitated harvesting. These paved the way for
mowing, and the machines spread all over the world. After 1950 came
the combine quickly replaced the binder.
