Geocache Description:

This cache is no longer part of the Trek Ten Trails program. Visit our Web site for more information - Friends of the Parks

You are searching for a regular sized container hidden along the one of the hiking trails at the 1,173-acre Marshall Hampton Reserve on Thornhill Road, which was purchased by the Southwest Florida Water Management District in 2008 and is managed by Polk County Environmental Lands.

The former ranch, bought in connection with a project that will modify the Lake Hancock water level, contains a six-mile trail system consisting of two main trails. The 3.5-mile Acorn Hammock Trail runs through oak hammocks. The 2.5-mile Osprey Overlook Trail runs around the circumference of a 60-acre borrow pit, the only open water on the site. The trails are all unpaved and muddy in some low spots during the rainy season. There is no access to Lake Hancock on the property.

For anyone not familiar with Letterboxing there is a log in the box for you to sign and stamp (with your stamp), then you stamp your own log or paper (with stamp that is in the box). If you do not have your own stamp, then stickers or handrawn artwork is acceptable. DO NOT TAKE STAMP WITH YOU; IT IS NOT A TRADE ITEM!!!

Please sign in at the information board in the parking lot near the trailhead, and note that you're there to geocache. Polk County's Environmental Lands Program is receptive to caching. Signing in shows that you appreciate this. Please be respectful of this property, its vegetation & wildlife. Make sure you grab a map of the area at the trailhead. Minor bushwhacking may be required at the cache site, please stay on designated trails until you reach the search area.
