Jen jednou za rok se na dva dny otevírá brána židovského hrbitova v Pohorelicích u Brna pro prípadné zájemce o zhlédnutí. Stane se tak vždy v rámci pohorelických slavností v mesíci cervnu.
Židovský hrbitov v Pohorelicích predstavuje jeden z mála hmotných dokladu dlouhých a pestrých dejin pohorelické židovské obce. Doba založení hrbitova není presne známá, pravdepodobne k založení došlo po tricetileté válce. Nejstarší náhrobky pocházejí z 2.pol. 17. století.
Na ploše o rozloze necelého hektaru se nachází približne jeden tisíc náhrobku ruzného stárí usporádaných do rad, casto jde o krásné ukázky kamenické práce barokní a klacisistní. Nekteré náhrobky z 18. a z první poloviny 19. století obsahují pozoruhodnou symboliku vztahující se ke jménu, rodu, zamestnání nebo vlastnostem zemrelého, napríklad: dva lvi, dva jeleni, pták na vetvi, strom, kvetinác, mísa s hrozny, koruna, levitské nádoby a další, mnohdy v rozlicných vzájemných kombinacích.
V prední cásti hrbitova stojí též jednoduché náhrobky halicských uprchlíku z let první svetové války 1914-1918 a rovnež památníky židovských obetí první a druhé svetové války z Pohorelic.

První Židé prišli do Pohorelic zrejme z královských mest Brna a Znojma, odkud byli v roce 1454 vypuzeni. Písemne jsou doloženi k roku 1490, kdy už pravdepodobne existovala náboženská obec, znovu doložená od 1.pol.17.století Židum, živícím se tradicne zejména obchodem, bývala od stredoveku vymezena jen malá cást mesta - ghetto.
Nárustem poctu židovských obyvatel a domu se pak v Pohorelicích postupne vytvoril charakteristický vzhled ctvrti za kostelem, dodnes zvané "Židy", s úzkými ulickami a na sebe nalepenými domky.

Jewish cemetery in Pohorelice is one of the few tangible evidence of long and colorful history Pohorelický Jewish community. Starting out the cemetery is not precisely known, probably occurred after the establishment of the Thirty Years War. The oldest gravestones date from the 2nd half. 17th century.
On an area of ??less than a hectare is about one thousand tombstones arranged in different age ranges, often a beautiful baroque examples of stonework and klacisistní. Some of the gravestones from the 18th and the first half of the 19th century include the remarkable symbolism relating to the name, gender, occupation or properties of the deceased, for example: two lions, two deer, a bird on a branch, tree, flower pot, a bowl of grapes, crown, Levi, container and other, often in different mutual combinations.
In front of the cemetery is also simple Galician refugees tombs dating from the First World War, 1914-1918, as well as memorials to Jewish victims of the First and Second World War Pohorelice.

The first Jews came to Pohorelice probably from the royal cities of Brno and Znojmo, where they were evicted in 1454.
