Geocache Description:

Cayo Blanco, "White Key", is a small paradise half an hour away from Varadero, Cuba.

Cayo Blanco has a long, beautiful and pristine beach.  What's unique about this beach is that the water is so shallow that it only reaches your ankle even if you walk some 600-1000 feet away from the shore.

With the extremely shallow water and strips of sand extended to the ocean, it is not surprising to see rare sights of people "walking on water".

Offshore and southeast of Playa Ancón is Cayo Blanco de Casilda , where there is a beautiful beach with lovely white sand, 1 hours by boat. A small cay to the east, Cayo Macho, is excellent for watching seabirds and pelicans, while to the west of Cayo Blanco there is some lovely coral 18 to 40 m deep where you can find a wide variety of fish, turtles, lobster and crab. In places the coral has been damaged by storms but in other patches it is plentiful with brain coral, sea fans and lots of fish and starfish. A day trip on a catamaran with snorkelling is organized by hotels and tour companies. Huge iguanas and hermit crabs clean up all the leftovers round the back of the kitchen. Sometimes the iguanas come round to the tables and effectively beg for fruit. You get a lovely view of the Sierra Escambray from the sea and it is a worthwhile excursion.
