Geocache Description:

Not for the faint hearted or for those who can't swim.

This is not officially called "Snipers island" but it's a slang name I use for this island often as it would make an excellent observation post.
There is a water crossing involved in this, so you will need some means of floatation. During the summer school holidays, paddle boats are usually on hire at the lake.

This cached was placed at night by myself and another Ex-reservist (+1), in an operation reminiscent of training weekends. I do miss the reserves.

However I have my own means of transport and some assistance from other fellow geocachers.

The land on the island is listed as uncategorised public land according to DSE, and I have not found any information stating that people are not allowed on this island.

I have visited the island on several occasions before, and it was full of blackberry and bird nests.

Things to be wary of:

Thorns
Injuring wildlife
Wildlife that may injure you
The obvious water hazards.
Don't drink the water!

if you do fall in, you may find that most of the lake is not much more than 2m deep. In summer it's possible to wade across, but this would attract much muggle attention.

So - before you go to all the effort to find this one, here's what's in it:

One, one of a kind, Unofficial Dranoweb coin - trackable through dranoweb.com - No registration needed.
One, First finder's unoficial Dranoweb geocoin - specially made for this cahce.
One, type 5 unofficial Dranoweb geocoin - also trackable at the same place.
One, type 4 Unofficial Dranoweb geocoin - same as above.

(These are custom laser cut specialties, produced in short runs and are highly collectable.
I produce a new set each time I do a geocaching session.
Some I make lots of, some will never be produced again.)

A commercially prepared microscope slide containing a dyed cross section of human skin.
A "his master's voice" Badge from a vintage Record Player.
A small assortment of military charity pins.
Thermometer with mini compass.

The cache is a camo painted plastic container (925ml) with laser cut, black and white 2plex geocache badge on the top.

Due to flooding in the area, the northern side of the island was under about 6 inches of water, so we placed this cache up off the ground in a hollow branch on higher ground.
