The cache is located near Terrace Pond, a scenic, clear glacial lake on Bearfort Mountain. It's fairly rugged climb to the cache site, but anyone in halfway decent shape should have no problem. If the weather is nice its a great spot for a picnic lunch and be sure to check out the surrounding trails and overlooks (NY/NJ Trail Conference Map #21 is good to have along).
Park on Clinton Rd at N41.08.795, W74.24.232. GPS will indicate that the cache is slightly over a half mile, but the actual walk is closer to a mile. The easiest way in is to take the gas pipeline cut up the side of the mountain and turn off on the blue (Terrace Pond North) trail (Note: use the second blue turnoff. The trail joins the gasline near the bottom and exits towards the top. It is the latter turnoff that you should take). This trail should take you to within 100 yards of the cache site. The cache is hidden in a large rock formation just west of the pond (off the white trail). There are numerous small caves and crevices among the rocks, so it may take some time to find the cache without using the clue. Note this section is just outside the Newark watershed property, so no hiking permit is required.
Note: As inviting as Terrace Pond looks on a hot day, do not swim in it. It is illegal to do so and the rangers do patrol the area. I know, as I had to pay a fine after I was caught swimming there some years ago. The worst part is they make you hike all the way back down before they give you the ticket.
