Geocache Description:

This is cache #1 on a 2 mile circular walk along the southern outskirts of Malmesbury.

The route will take you past a few of the Town's historic sights such as Daniel's Well, St John's Bridge, Avon Mill - an old silk mill which has been turned into apartments - as well as some other places of interest like the old Postern Mill and Mill Brewery & Corn Mill indicated by a plaque when looking down from the urban part of the route between cache #7 and #8. You will also pass 'The Rec' where you can stop off for a picnic.
The second part of the route will also provide you with some nice views of the Abbey and the southern part of town.
The caches can be done in any order.

Terrain & Difficulty:
The terrain for the walk which was planned based on the local OS map, has been set at 2 reflecting the average of the entire walk.

Accessibility:
Whilst the route to some caches can made by wheelchair - especially those at the start (#1 and #2) and towards the end (#8, #9 and #10) - I believe that retrieval of the actual cache from a wheelchair may only possible for caches #8, #9 and #10 under certain circumstances and have marked the attributes on those cache listings accordingly.
I have rated these according to the handicaching website. Please let me know if this is not correct.
Along the route you will encounter a number of stiles and a gate (from #3 to #7 incl.). The route is fine for dogs, but they may need a hand crossing some stiles.

Parking:
There is room for a couple of cars at the suggested coordinates in Arches Lane. Alternatively, there is a single space adjacent to the police station behind the bus stop. There is further parking further along the A429 opposite a parking area that was closed off at the time of cache placement (July 2011). When parking here, the pavement is on the other side of the road, so beware when crossing the road. Additional free - time limited - as well as paid parking is available in town.
Cache placement:
There are a couple of bridges along the route. No cache has been placed near any of them. Also, no cache has been placed in or on top of a wall.

Nearby Caches:
At the time of placing this series, there are a few neaby caches including a series of 5, placed by Dudboy, folling the tracks of of the old Malmesbury Railway Line.

For #01, you are looking for a small black screwtop container.
