Geocache Description:

Outside Victoria & Albert Museum

After the Great Exhibition of 1851, Prince Albert and Sir Henry Cole made plans for a museum emphasising on applied arts. In 1857, Queen Victoria opened what was then known as The South Kensington Museum. In 1899, its name was changed into Victoria and Albert Museum. Today, the V&A is the world's largest museum of decorative arts and design, housing a permanent collection of over 4.5 million objects.

However, some outstanding examples of contemporary photography have not, as yet, found their way into the museum. Instead, they are exhibited in red-painted boxes nearby.
