Geocache Description:

Welcome to Rush Meadow Rummage! This is a series of caches around Rush Meadow, north of Dereham. We hope you enjoy the series, there are just a few things to point out before you start.

Firstly, you will need a log removal tool (tweezers, etc.) for some of the caches. Secondly, part of the walk is adjacent to a stream (which joins the River Wensum at Worthing) so do take care with children, the other thing is the nettles – they’ve got very high since we first started planning this series of caches, and for part of the walk they are over Mummybear's head in the summer! So do make sure you have trousers and possibly long sleeves. Babybear (3) caught a lift on Daddybears shoulders for about 50m. There are plenty of doc leaves around though… In the winter it will be wet and boggy in parts, and is sadly not ‘pram-able’.

Nettle Update - September 2012
It would appear with the English weather we are having this year, that the weeds, especially the nettles, are significant between number 4 and number 8. This is to be expected since it is a boggy area, and alongside the river where nettles thrive. Please ensure you wear suitable clothing, and if you don't like nettles, save this walk for the Autumn/Winter.

Now the health and safety bit is out of the way, let us tell you about Rush meadow – it’s a fantastic spot, with some great plants and wildlife. It’s a SSSI undergoing a five year restoration plan, and it has a well trodden path around the edge which makes up one of the Norfolk County Circular Walks. On the way round, you can pick up ‘The Swamp’ which is the cache that first brought us here. None of our caches deviate far from the path, so please do be careful in this lovely location. Each cache has a very specific clue, which will likely spoil your search if you check it in advance. This has been done specifically to help protect this area, and to prevent the formation of ‘cache trails’.

Many special wet meadow plants can be found such as marsh orchid, marsh fern and bog bean with birds such as snipe and sedge warbler spotted. Our favorites are the Damsel Flies – well those and the sewage treatments works! Babybear currently has an obsession with where pipes go, and this walk gives plenty of opportunity for discussion on sludge cake – Yummy! But seriously, we’ve rarely had problems with odour, and the walk past the treatment plant is short!

The bonus is hidden somewhere around the walk with clues to it's location in some of the caches. Don't forget to check each cache's log for the clues!

This cache is a cache and dash at the parking to get you started! No room for TB's here though.

There is no need to cross any barbed wire, nor is the cache located next to it.

Please ensure you don't drop any rubbish here, as DaddyBear doesn't want to have to practice CITO too often!

With kind thanks to Anglian Water for allowing us to place these caches.

!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO Gippslass FOR FTF !!!
