St Mary the Virgin church in the tiny hamlet of Orlestone, near Ashford in Kent, is one of the most remote churches in the whole county with only a manor house nearby. The church was first completed in the 14th Century but was extensively modernised by the Victorians five centuries later and it does retain a Victorian character about the church with a nave, chancel and a simple shingled bellcote instead of a more substantial tower. 1799 Edward Hasted wrote: The church, which is dedicated to St. Mary, stands on the upper side of the hill, one field distant from the road, which may be said to be almost disused. The church-yard adjoins to the farm-yard and the courtlodge. It is a very small building, consisting of one isle and one chancel, having a very low pointed steeple of wood at the west end, in which are three bells. Please sign the log book, if not, don't log it online thanks. If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication. There is also a Church Micro Stats page found via the Bookmark list
