Das Bild zeigt eine ganz andere Tankstelle.
Die Schwabinger Tankstelle aus den 50er Jahren hat schon lange
keinen Treibstoff mehr im Angebot. Auch die Waschanlage und die
Werkstatt existieren nicht mehr.
Eigentlich sollte das Betondach, das einst die heute
verschwundenen Zapfsäulen überspannte abgerissen werden. Doch dazu
kam es nicht. Ein Kunstsammler und Investmentbanker mietete die
ehemalige Tankstelle, um darin eine Kunstgallerie zu betreiben.
So blieb nicht nur das markante von zwei Säulen getragene Dach,
sondern auch die zum Teil geflieste Fassade des Kassenraums mit
seinen gebogenen Fensterscheiben erhalten.
Ausgestellt werden dort unter anderem Skulpturen von Künstlern
wie Barry LeVa, Gordon Matta-Clark und Fred Sandback.

The picture shows a completely different gas station.
Built in the fifties the gas station in Schwabing has long time
removed fuel from its product line. Also both the car wash and the
workshop do no longer exist today.
Actually the concrete roof, once traversing the today
disappeared gas pumps, was to be demolished. But this did not
happen. An art collector and investment banker rented the former
gas station to start an art gallery there.
So not only the distinctive roof with its two concrete columns,
but also the partially tiled storefront of the erstwhile pay booth
with its curved window panes were preserved.
Amongst other pieces of art, sculptures by artists as Barry
LeVa, Gordon Matta-Clark und Fred Sandback are exhibited.
