Geocache Description:

La Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli sorge nella pianura che si
apre ai piede del colle di Assisi a protezione della PORZIUNCOLA ,
dove San Francesco avrebbe fondato il prima nucleo dell`Ordine dei
Frati Minori nel 1209 e della cappella del Transito dove il santo
morì il 3 ottobre 1226.

L`edificio è oggi uno dei santuari più grandi del Cristianesimo
contando 126 metri di lunghezza, circa 65 de larghezza e 75 metri
di altezza in corrispondenza della cupola portata a termine nel
1680.

La basilica ospita alcuni affreschi di Appiani,e del `600 di
Pomarancio,dei fratelli Zuccari ed altri.

la statua alta in bronzo di Maria si sarebbe mosso negli anni "20... the big bronze Maria would have moved in 1920...

The Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli stands in the plain laying
at the feet of the hills of Assisi protecting the PORZIUNCOLA ,
where San Francesco is said to have founded the first group of the
Order or the "Frati Minori" (Minor Friars ) in 1209, and the Chapel
of the "Transito" where the saint died on October 3rd 1226.

The edifice is nowadays one of the largest sanctuaries of the
Christian world, being 126 meters long, more or less 65 meters
large and 75 meters high at the level of the cupola archieved in
1680.

The basilica welcomes some of the frescoes of Appiani, of the
Zuccari brothers and others.
