Geocache Description:

This cache is dedicated to MsKardiac and Dr. Clean - who originally placed the cache in this area - Your turn to find it !

In 1917 the pumps that kept the quarry empty stopped working and 40 feet of water covered everything. Step back in time and enjoy a dive.

Sherkston Quarry has changed quite a bit in the last year. There is now only one Scuba entry area - the point, where they have added a set of wooden stairs to aid in entry. A lot of the trash on the bottom has been cleaned up, old lines and fishing line have been removed, added paved parking at the Scuba entry area and put in a shower, restroom facility right nearby! all the "field" that was here before is now trailer / camping sites.

This multi begins at the base of the stairs, on the rock of the point. From here, follow a compass bearing of 225° magnetic to the train locomotives, a swim of approximately 122m (400 feet). They are located in approximately 28 feet of water (top of the engines) and usually marked by a red buoy (painted propane tank) at the surface. Alternately, there is now a BLUE line run along the bottom from the South side of the point directly to the train engines. Do not follow the red line - it leads to the teaching platform.

From the smaller of the two engines, follow a bearing of 200° magnetic for 30 kick cycles (yes, remember back to your open water class...) and you should arrive at the resting place of the cache itself.

The cache is a yellow "waterproof" plastic beach hold all tube, approx 4.5" long and 1" wide. (see picture - The Cache)

It contains a plastic card to sign and a secret code written on the inside of the lid. It may be easiest to bring a marker or pen to write on the card as the pencil inside may be wet and break - bringing the cache to the surface to sign may also be an option - but please return it to it's hiding spot.

You may want to bring an additional tank, (the option to fill / rent tanks is available on site)and explore more of the quarry if you have not been here before. Of particular interest is the pump house, located just SE of the entry area (almost directly below the 1st large tree at the water's edge) and the many ore cars scattered along the miles of track.
