Geocache Description:

**This is a divecache, accessible only by trained and certified scuba divers, hence the terrain rating of 5** Mammoth Lake is one of my favorite local dive sites. This cache has been placed there with the operator's permission. To get access to the lake you will need to pay the admission fee & sign a waiver for the lake. Mammoth Lake reopens to the public in April but the owner was kind enough to let me make a couple of dives to check on the cache. Please only look for the cache if you have authorization to be in the water! You're looking for an orange plastic container about the size of a small pitcher. In it are a log (bring your own pencil) and lots of room for trackables. The dive weight in the bottom of the cache is there to keep it slightly negative. Please do not take the weight from the cache. The coordinates listed are not for the cache itself, but are a close as you can get and still be dry. You can access the cache from any entry on the lake, but you'll have less of a swim from the northern ones. See the red and white buoys? That's where you're headed. The plane was sunk in two sections, the nose and the tail. The cache is near the back of the plane's nose section, in a hatch with a small white toggle switch in the upper left corner. Both the hatch and the bottom have no shortage of silt, so I'd recommend having your dive buddy illuminate the area with a bright dive light. That'll leave you two hands to open & re-close the cache, which you'll need. Dive gloves are highly recommended as well! There are some sharp edges now from the years the plane's spent underwater. Use caution when looking for the cache. If you kick up the sediment, your viz will go away pretty quickly. Please open the cache with care as well. Many of the contents as well as the lid will want to float away. Please replace the cache exactly as you found it, making sure there is no air inside, and the cap has been screwed back on securely. Right now there are three trackables that I placed in the cache in Mar 2020 as a little added incentive. Please only take one and leave the rest for other cachers. - The Reef Check geocoin is the largest of the three and is round. That's a prize for the first person to re-discover the cache now that the lake is reopening. Feel free to keep that or drop it in another cache. - The two travel racers are small rectangular tags. Please keep those moving by dropping in another cache. They're racing to another destination. - All three of the trackables have been put in shrink-wrap plastic to protect them while underwater. You'll need to cut them out once you get them to the surface. Happy hunting, and happy diving! Congratulations to danleon2000 for FTF!!
