This cache is located on the Stiles Cove Path (north) section of the ECT, between Pouch Cove and Shoe Cove. To get the smiley, you’ll have to take a side path that descends northward to Georges Point.
This section of the ECT can be accessed from Shoe Cove Road at the eastern end, or from the west via the trailhead near the post office in Pouch Cove. Parking is available at the end of Shoe Cove Road or in the St. Agnes church lot, opposite the post office.
Most parents with kids of the single digit vintage will understand the reference in the title of this cache. And while this was indeed the case with our six year old daughter at the time of placement, it wasn’t really the reason that we chose this site!
A multitude of steps will lead you toward GZ. Please be careful on the slippery rocks in the area and if there’s a ‘great big sea on’ you may feel the spray!
The cache is fairly well tucked away and contained a FTF certificate and pin when hidden.
You may also want to pick your way down the rocky shoreline to catch a glimpse of Pippy’s Gulch. Please do so with caution as the rocky outcroppings tend to drop off without much warning, and this should never be attempted in rough weather.
This is indeed a beautiful place but, as with most of the ECT, sections of this trail skirt the edges of high cliffs which may be undercut and fragile. Please take extra care if accompanied by young cachers or pets. Our kids love the adventure of hiking these paths and we feel that their lives are richer from the experience. Safety always comes first, however, and we insist on keeping them close!
