The parish church of St John the Baptist Bere Regis, is one of Dorset’s most interesting. The church was built in the 12th century to replace a wooden structure that originally stood where the current church stands today, with further additions and extensions made to the church over the following three centuries, with further restoration in 1875.
Features include some 16th century seating and a number of Purbeck marble monuments, it has an early sixteenth century tower constructed of local limestone ( Purbeck ) and flint.
The treasure of the church however are the carved and painted oak roof beams, which date from the fifteenth century. The protruding beams are believed to have been constructed under the guidance of Cardinal John Morton, they are twelve figures dressed in medieval costume, either monastic figures or maybe to represent the twelve apostles.
If anybody would like to expand the series please do, I would ask that you let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
There is also a church micro stats page via the bookmark list.
To find the cache you first have to find a bench in the grounds of the church, and gather some information from it to work out the co-ordinates of the final location.
You are looking for a bench in memory of Geoff Green ABCD - EFGH who loved this place.
The cache is a short walk from the church at a nice location, please be careful when retrieving the cache as muggles can approach from all directions.
The cache is at
