This cache has been archived.

ROTSIP: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

The end of the driving range taken over by a local flock of gulls. Offers a view of all northern flights as situated between both runways - both incoming and outbound.

A roadside hanging nano with parking close-by - but might not be that easy to find.

Located close the the new R21 and Atlas Road interchange on the access road to the Commercial Terminal at OR Tambo International.

The cache is a "hanging nano" on the roadside just before the security gates. There is a dead-end tar inlet for parking - else those wanting to rough it can take the track - or even park on the side of the road close to the co-ords.

This spot overlooks the interchange and offers a good view of flights coming in from the north on either runway - 03L/21R or 03R/21L. Looking back to the airport you can see the radar towers behind the trees and will see outbound flights.

The field is the end of the driving range and with the new roads has formed a marshy area making it an ideal breeding ground for the local Larus Cirrocephalus (Grey-headed gulls) - see (visit link) . These birds nest year each year from autumn to spring.

As a result there is a flock of gulls nesting here that feel this is their home and will take exception to you but also offer some great photo opportunities above their cries.

Unfortunately as this is a busy spot with pedestrians I could not place a decent size cache so have "hang a nano" for you to unscrew to access the log. A little high for kids but sure they can keep the gulls busy while the cahce is retrieved under the guise of taking some photos.

Happy caching! While in the area be sure to visit the others in this series and find some great spots around our airport - (visit link) - the largest and busiest airport in Africa.
