Geocache Description:

Join us for another rendition of the Central Kenai Peninsula Meet & Greet Picnic!

Hosted by SSO JOAT and sponsored by Geocache Alaska!, join us on Saturday, July 9th, starting at Noon, under the Picnic Pavilion at Soldotna Creek Park in "downtown" Soldotna on the bank of the World Famous Kenai River.

GeocacheAlaska!

We will be starting off with a social gathering and a BBQ picnic with burgers and hot dogs. The main course and associated fixin's will be provided, but please bring your favorite picnic side dish to share with the group. To be sure that we do sufficient grocery shopping, please RSVP with a "Will Attend" log entry on this cache listing. Include in your log how many people will be in your party and what type of side dish you'll be bringing (so that we don't end up with 20 bags of tater chips and no beans or salad). Please bring your own favorite beverage, but Please, NO Alcohol!

GeocacheAlaska! will have their merchandise store on site so you can help support the organization's Geocaching advocacy mission through purchase of unique and custom GeoCoins, custom items from GxProxy, or even some official GroundSpeak gear!

The picnic pavilion is adjacent to the brand new playground facility, so please bring your kids along!

New cachers are welcome and encouraged to attend. We'll have many experienced cachers who will be more than happy to show you the ropes!

Following the picnic and social time, we are going to play my devious little daycaching game again this year. It was a great success at the 2009 Picnic (we had to skip it last year). There will be a couple dozen daycaches hidden within the area of Soldotna Creek Park. It's all within very easy walking distance of the picnic, so everyone can play. The just of the game involves forming small teams of cachers who will be given a list of the all the daycaches and the game rules. On the "GO" signal, everyone heads out to find as many daycaches as possible during a timed cache-n-dash. As you find each cache, there will be a number of cards inside with various point values. The FTF gets the most points and each subsequent finder gets fewer points. Everyone must be back at the pavilion by the predetermined ending time. At the end, we will tally up the points and the team with the most points will be declared victorious. Naturally, there are some unique twists to the playing of the game, but you'll find out those secret details along with everyone else at the picnic. It's not quite as straight-forward as it seems. ;-)

Hey, did I mention prizes? Of course there will be prizes! We'll reward the best caching teams and there are going to be various FTF prizes in some of the caches as well!

Don't forget that we are having our festivities on the bank of the World Renowned Kenai River! Bring your fishing pole as the salmon will be running and there are hundreds of feet of riverfront boardwalk!

See You There!!!
