This geocache event is for local geocachers to support our own geocaching friends. This event will be held 6/24 at Calais Regional Hospital, in the classroom. There will be signs upon entrance to the hospital lobby. Please join us at 6:30-8:30pm for a meet and greet and to hear Cheryl Morin speak briefly about suicide facts in Maine. There will be 3-4 geocoin door prizes, desserts, coffee and cold beverages supplied. Please come join Davidson7 and myself in welcoming Vic and Blaine on their bike adventure.
The Calais Advertiser will be there for a photo op of Vic and Blaine.
The JD Foundation presents Vic and Blaine's Suicide Awareness Bicycle Tour on Monday, June 20 at 7:00am - July 2 at 10:00am. From Rte 1 in Fort Kent to Kittery.
In 2004 Vic Morin and Blaine Burhoe embarked on a cross country bicycle tour from Anacortes, Washington to their home in Abbot, Maine.That experience forever changed their lives and they vowed that they would do something similar every couple of years. Unfortunately the following year Vic and his wife, Cheryl, lost a son to suicide. Their lives were once again were changed forever. The JD Foundation was started as a result of this tragic event to... help raise awareness and prevent suicide.
As Vic and Blaine ride the length of the route they hope that others will come ride with them, provide them with places to camp, connect them to local media to help spread their word, and open peoples hearts to support their efforts, by making a donation.
The plans for this ride will be to cover 40-60 miles a day giving Vic and Blaine time to connect with people along the route.
