Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates!

Comic heroes are great! The best have gone beyond the printed page to television and movies and have inspired devotion and tributes from their fans. There are tributes to comic heroes in the following four places in Illinois:

A. N 37° 54.312 W 089° 50.032
B. N 41° 50.884 W 088° 09.409
C. N 37° 09.137 W 088° 43.966
D. N 41° 47.516 W 087° 54.986

To solve this puzzle and find the cache you'll need to identify the hero being honored at each location, and find some information about when the hero first appeared in print.

North
A and B originally appeared in newspapers. You'll need to find the year, month and day the character first appeared in a paper. For both of these take the two digit year multiply this by the month, and add the day. For example if A was first printed on July 26th, 1895, then the answer for A is (95 * 7) + 26 = 691

Subtract B - (2 * A) from the thousandths of a minute in the posted North coordinates.

West
C and D originally appeared in comic books. You'll need the year and month they first appeared, along with the edition number of the comic book. For both of these take the two digit year and multiply it by the month, then subtract the edition number. For example if hero C first appeared in the May 1910 edition of Superhero Comics, #8, then the answer for C is (10 * 5) - 8 = 42

Subtract (C + D) from the thousandths of a minute of the posted West coordinates.

Google Earth, or something similar can be a big help solving this puzzle. You may need to look at some older images, as "D" is covered up in more recent images.
