Geocache Description:

Historic Caches of Hillsdale County Challenge

In an effort to build cacher awareness of the historic caches in Hillsdale County, Michigan, this challenge has been issued.

Brief Overview and History:

When I was picked up the cache for this series in Hillsdale County, I set about to find out what the first cache was in Hillsdale County in order to place one in a similar manner. I am fortunate enough that the original hiding spot recently reopened to be able to place this cache back at this location.

This cache is located in McCourtie Park, Somerset Center, MI. This park is one of the hidden gems of Hillsdale County and once you are there, you will know what makes so many people fall in love with this park. The location of this cache in particular is at the site of GCAA0, the first cache placed in Hillsdale County, which was placed on May 27, 2001 and lasted until November 23, 2001. I have corresponded with one of the finders of that cache to learn a bit more about it and am thankful for their contributions.

The Hide:

The cache container for this challenge is located at the given coordinates and is similar to its original hide and container (clear Tupperware or in this case a Lock-n-Lock).

The Challenge:

There are two ways to meet this challenge. One is to have found the original cache at this location. The other is to find and log five of the seven current oldest existing caches in Hillsdale County (or one of them that has been archived).

Once the requirements have met, you may find and log this cache. You may either prove you have met the challenge by posting your finds to a public bookmark (best way) or you may list your finds in the body of your log on this cache. Either way, be sure to give the waypoint, cache name, and date found. Prior finds do count.
