Geocache Description:

Summary:
Enjoy one of the few underwater Geocaches in Key Largo. This cache was hidden in order for a geocacher to experience an underwater hide in a historic location! Be aware access to the location of the hide does have a responsible $30 entrance fee to explore the underwater world around this cache. Bring an underwater camera to take a picture of your find. Also, larger yellow pelican boxes near lodge are not geocaches. It is the luggage for guests.

Description:
This geocache is one of only a few underwater caches in the United States! You will want plenty of time to enjoy this wonderful location and you should be aware there is an entry fee of $30.00 to enter the water that the cache is in, the location is private property where the owners are pleased to allow us all the ability to cache at the location as long as everyone follows the rules for the site. These rules are in place for everyones safety.

• You must check in at the office before attempting to collect the cache. The is a special sign in sheet onsite for geocachers.
• You may only cache when the location is open, attempting to collect the cache outside of these hours is trespassing and will ruin the access to the site for all your fellow cachers.
• You will need dive equipment and proper training to collect this cache. Equipment and training can be obtained at any of the many dive shops in Key Largo.

We know this will be one of the most exciting geocaches finds you will ever have.

Plenty of history and scientific information makes this an excellent location to spend some time. You will dive down 25 feet to reach the location of the cache. In addition to the cache you will find a underwater lodge where you can even spend the night and an underwater research laboratory once used to explore the continental shelf off the coast of Puerto Rico until it was moved here. This is an excellent opportunity for geocachers to explore the diversity of habitats and gain an understanding of why it is so important to protect our natural mangrove shorelines. You will also see amazing technology here including an underwater laboratory devoted exclusively to research and education.

The contestants of the Amazing Race(2011)were here to get their next clue and like the clues the contestants receive, our hint/clue will help you find 5 Fathom's Cache.

Although this geocaching experience involves scuba diving, even geocachers who never scuba dived before can find this geocache. A pleasant 3 hour class known as Discover Scuba Diving is available and acquaints the non-certified diver with the equipment and procedures necessary to comfortably dive with an instructor. This course can be obtained from a range of dive shops in the area and some even have instructors who are GeoCachers who can help you along your way. Check out the posted logs for the cache to find cachers who are also dive instructors who can help you with the required training!
