São Vicente do Pigeiro
São Vicente do Pigeiro é a freguesia, que dá nome a esta cache, e cuja Sede se situa na Vendinha. Pertence ao concelho e distrito de Évora, com uma área de 84,77Km2 e cerca de 400 habitantes.
O nome da freguesia tem origem na sua igreja paroquial, cuja denominação aparece documentada pela primeira vez em meados do século XIV.
Reza a lenda que São Vicente aparecia em cima de uma oliveira, acompanhado por dois corvos, para que fosse construída uma igreja naquele local. A razão que o levava a aparecer ali seria para avistar eternamente os seus irmãos, São Gens e São Pedro, cujas igrejas se encontram, respectivamente, nos pontos mais altos da Serra D'Ossa (a Norte) e da Serra de Portel (a Sul).
Assim foi construída esta igreja, a mandado de Domingos Esteves, proprietário na altura desta herdade, e cujo nome aparece inscrito nas lajes da sua sepultura, no interior da igreja.
No símbolo da freguesia aparecem os dois corvos que simbolizam o aparecimento de São Vicente.
E quanto à oliveira, ardeu nos anos 90, num fogo de ceara que ali ocorreu. Dizem os mais velhos que o tronco da oliveira era já muito largo, o que indica que deveria ter umas largas centenas de anos…
Para chegar ao local da igreja, há que atravessar a Herdade da Ervideira e passar ao lado da Adega, onde são produzidos vinhos de renome nacional e internacional, e que tanto valorizam a região.…

This cache is named after the civil parish of São Vicente do Pigeiro which council is located in Vendinha. Belongs to Évora's district, has an area of 84,77km2 and about 400 inhabitants.
The name of the parish comes from its parochial church, whose denomination appears in documents as late as the 14th century.
Legend has it that São Vincente (Saint Vicent) would appear above a olive tree, along with two crows, so that a church would be built in that place. The reason for him to appear in this exact spot would be to forever look out for his brothers, São Gens and São Pedro, whose churches are located, respectively, to the highest point north (Serra D´Ossa) and to the highest point south (Serra de Portel).
Therefore, ordered by Domingos Esteves, landowner of the location at the time, this church was built, and his name appears engraved in the slabs of the church hall.
In the Parish symbol the two crows are featured symbolizing the appearance of São Vincente and as for the olive tree, it burned in the 90´s, in a wildfire. The eldest say that the trunk was very very large indicating that the tree was many centuries old...
To get to the church, we have to cross through "Herdade da Ervideira" and pass near the winery, where prestigious wines of national and international renown are made.
