Geocache Description:

This geocache/letterbox hybrid will take you to the "Riverpoint" area in Norfolk.  It was roughly in this area of the "North Fork" of the Elkhorn River in 1865 that a scouting party of three men, Ferdinand Wagner, Herman Braasch and John Gensmer, departed Wisconsin and headed west to investigate northeast Nebraska as a possible site for their German colony. A survey of the area revealed a "very fertile" Elkhorn Valley. So, in 1866, 44 families of pioneers came to the area that would become the town of "North Fork", living out of their covered wagons until permanent houses could be built.

In 1868, German farmers informed the government of their desire to establish a post office for the new town of "North Fork", shortened to "Norfork." Government officials assumed an error in spelling, and proclaimed that a new post office for "Norfolk" be established. The name remains the same nearly 150 years later, but most Nebraskans, and Norfolkans, still call it "Norfork." Official incorporation of Norfolk, granted by the state of Nebraska, occurred in 1881.

You are looking for a small Lock & Lock container with a log, pen, compass letterbox stamp, and a GeoJudt Pathtag for the FTF.  You will need to bring your own ink pad if you wish to trade stamp images.

Please DO NOT take the compass stamp.  It stays in the geocache/letterbox hybrid for future finders.  Please sign the log and, if you have your own stamp, put an image in the log as well.  If you have no stamp, feel free to make a fun doodle or drawing in it's place!!  Good luck and have fun!

Please be careful, as there is no railing along one side.  Watch the "rapids", but don't fall in!

This geocache/letterbox hybrid is also listed on Letterboxing.org.  If you wish to find the geocache/letterbox hybrid using traditional letterboxing clues instead of coordinates:  Click here for the listing on Letterboxing.org
