Geocache Description:

This was originally the bonus cache of a circular four cache series in Stanmore Country Park, an area of natural oak and hornbeam woodland with open spaces of grassland alive with rabbits, jays and the occasional muntjac. It is now a standalone Puzzle Cache.

The cache is not at the above location but it is close and you can park there free of charge until 4.30 daily.

This is hardly a park. There is no playground, no flowerbeds, lawns or park benches - just unspoilt natural oak and hornbeam woodland interspersed with areas of grassland alive with rabbits, jays and occasional muntjac deer.

The cache can be found at N51° 37.AF W000°18.DE(E-F)

You have to answer the questions below to locate the prize. A little research will be necessary.

• One half of Gilbert and Sullivan died in May 1911 and is buried in the churchyard of St John the Evangelist Church in Marsh Lane, Stanmore. On what date in the month did he die? Answer = A

• Stanmore is the NW terminus of the Jubilee line. How many other stations on the Jubilee have names beginning with the letter S? Answer = D

• There was once another station in Stanmore - Stanmore Village (BR) station. The station house is now a private dwelling and stands at the junction of Gordon Avenue and Old Church Lane. The line connected Stanmore to Harrow & Wealdstone on the main line and was built in the late 1800s by Fredrick Gordon, a successful hotelier who owned more London hotels than his only major competitor, Cesar Ritz. Gordon owned many acres of land around Stanmore and built his own golf course, now Stanmore Golf Club, so that he could entertain his influential city friends. The railway line allowed him to transport them from London for a few holes with him and his locally based friend Mr Blackwell, one of the two founders of Crosse & Blackwell. Eventually the line was taken over by British Railways and eventually axed in the Beeching cuts. It ceased carrying passengers in 1952 but continued as a goods line until finally closing in 196E.

• Gordon eventually found that he could not afford to maintain the golf course so, with Blackwell and others, he raised some cash and formed Stanmore Golf Club which thrives to this day. The owner of this cache was a member for 24 years. The club was founded in 189F?
