En bordure de l'ancienne route médiévale de Limoges, près de
l'ancien village de la Justice, aujourd'hui un quartier de La
Souterraine, se trouve une pierre, faussement désignée comme "le
menhir de la Jéraphie", n'étant autre qu'une ancienne borne féodale
de l'époque médiévale indiquant les anciennes limites de la
seigneurie.
Cette borne de juridiction séparait vraisemblablement la justice de
la vicomté de Bridiers et celle de la prévôté de La Souterraine qui
appartenait aux moines de Saint-Martial de Limoges. Sa datation est
incertaine dans la grande tranche chronologique du moyen âge.
Elle est taillée en prisme rectangulaire et a remplacé une croix
qu'un manuscrit sur la vicomté de Bridiers nous dit avoir été
plantée par Durand d'Orliac, évêque de Limoges (1240-1246) et
Brumer, chantre d'Angoulême.
Continuez votre route vers le nord (sur la D1, rue René Gillet) sur
800m pour trouver une église médiévale et une nouvelle cache.
On the edge of the old medieval road from Limoges, near the
ancient village of La Justice, now part of La Souterraine, located
a stone, falsely designated as "menhir of La Jéraphie", none other
a former feudal landmark of the medieval period showing the old
boundaries of the manor.
This jurisdiction stone is likely separated from the Justice of the
Viscount of Bridiers and that of the provost of La Souterraine,
which belonged to the monks of Saint Martial from Limoges. Its date
is uncertain in the large time-span of the Middle Ages.
It is cut into rectangular prism and has replaced the cross as a
manuscript on the viscount of Bridiers said to have been planted by
Durand of Orliac, bishop of Limoges (1240-1246) and Brumer, cantor
of Angouleme.
Keep heading north (on D1 road, street René Gillet) for 800m to
find a medieval church and another cache.
