SONČNI PARK _ Sonny Park & Enter Hidden Ptuj Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

POMEMBNO:
V primeru trajnega arhiviranja zaklada, so lastniki dolžni odstraniti vse, kar so v zvezi z zakladom postavili na terenu (vsebnik in vse postavljene vmesne stopnje).

Hvala za razumevanje in lep pozdrav.

V tem samostanu so pokopani gospodje Ptujski. DOMINICAN MONASTERY Muzejski trg (Museum Square) The Dominicans were the first friars of the mendicant order settling in Ptuj and on the territory of present Slovenia. In 1230, Mehtildis, the widow of Friedrich III Lord of Ptuj, founded the Dominican monastery in Ptuj by the agency of the Archbishop Eberhard II. She granted the Dominicans some land on the western edge of the town where the friars, having come to Ptuj from Breže na Koroškem (Friesach in Carinthia), had built their monastery and the church by 1252. The monastery is the last resting place of the Lords of Ptuj. The monastery itself had burnt and been restored several times during its history. Its Baroque appearance dates from the beginning of the 18 century. In 1786 Josef II suppressed the monastery through his reforms. The belongings of the monastery were auctioned, the buildings were firstly turned into the military hospital, and later into barracks. In 1926 the monastery was bought by the municipality, and two years after the Museum moved in. Today, the monastery houses archaeological collections of the Regional Museum Ptuj. Historical Archives Ptuj, established in 1955 and taking care of the comprehensive archive legacy of Ptuj and Ormož, has also found home in the monastery. MUZEJSKI TRG– SONCNI PARK (MUSEUM SQUARE - SUNNY PARK) The end of the street Prešeren widens itself into a square – Muzejski trg – and a park just in front of the Dominican monastery called the Sunny Park by the local people. The plateau on which stands the Dominican monastery used to be the end of the ancient transit road coming from the Roman bridge and crossing three superposed terraces: the Drava terrace, the middle terrace near the military barracks and finally the upper terrace situated on the level of Museum Square. The construction of town walls in the mid 13 century somehow enlarged the original town area as the defensive ring also included the Dominican monastery. There was the Drava town gate mentioned in 1311, and a smaller one built next to it opening on to Raiceva ulica and further to the road to Vurberk. Next to the walls was a foundry still operating in 1657. The Sunny Park in front of the Dominican monastery is today a part of the open-air lapidary. There was a gap between the park and the Small Castle until the 19 century, when a simple building was constructed on the spot where the town and the monastery defensive systems joined. First of all the building housed prisons, and today there are the headquarters of the Regional Museum Ptuj.
