Welcome to Winsome Church Hill
Church Hill is a beautiful area nestled at the foot of the South
Downs between Cissbury Ring and Blackpatch Hill. It is the location
of some of the oldest flint mines in the UK. At least 26 have been
identified here, but unfortunately due to ploughing, it is unlikely
that any more will be found. People have occupied this part of the
South Downs for thousands of years. Radiocarbon dating suggests, as
early as 4200BC.
This trail forms one of my favourite local dog walks. It offers
an easy to follow path, and some very lovely views of the wonderful
Sussex landscape. And yes, I know winsome refers to a persons
character being attractive and appealing, rather than an area, but
won't you please grant me a bit of poetic licence when trying to
come up with a snappy title! :o)
Most of the hides are in 60ml screw top specimin pots, with two
larger container for trackables. I have marked a parking waypoint
next to the church. I do recommend that to get the most from this
walk, that you follow the order in which they have been placed.
Please replace caches as you expect your own caches to be
replaced.
Have fun, and good luck.
