Come join the Maryland
Geocaching Society family at Pocomoke River State Park Shad Landing
for a Cache in Trash Out (CITO) and Picnic Event on Saturday,
September 10th at 9:00 AM. The posted coordinates are for the
picnic pavilion
This is an excellent
opportunity to give back to Mother Earth by picking up and removing
trash from the park.
Located within the 15,000
wooded acres of Pocomoke State Forest in the Southwestern section
of Worcester County the park provides a base for a vast array of
outdoor and tourist activities. The forest is famous for its stand
of loblolly pine and for its cypress swamps which border the wild
and scenic Pocomoke River. Pocomoke means black water, and that
means good fishing in those waters. The river originates in the
Great Cypress Swamp in Delaware and flows southwesterly 45 miles to
the Chesapeake Bay.
The MGS has reserved the
Sassafras Camp Site on the Blue Heron Loop for the night before the
CITO, September 9th, more information on claiming a campsite along
with rules and any questions can be found on the MGS
Forums
After the work is finished there will be plenty of
time to relax in the pavilion and enjoy a great potluck picnic.
There will be new caches in the park, it will be the first time
caches are allowed to be placed, so please be respectful of the
grounds.
Trash bags will be provided, items that will come
in handy include leather gloves, old sturdy sneakers or knee boots,
and handi-grabbers.
