Geocache Description:

507, 508, 509

Passed this thing countless times and finally stopped to take a close look at it the other day. Some cool history attached to it.

The letterbox/cache is only accessible between the hours of:

Mon–Sat: 10:00am–9:00pm

Sunday: 10:00am–5:00pm

Please be as stealthy as you can.

What is Letterboxing? - Here's the basic idea (taken from the LbNA website):
Someone hides a waterproof box somewhere (in a beautiful, interesting, or remote location) containing at least a logbook and a carved rubber stamp, and perhaps other goodies. The hider then usually writes directions to the box (called "clues" or "the map"), which can be straightforward, cryptic, or any degree in between. Often the clues involve map coordinates or compass bearings from landmarks, but they don't have to. Selecting a location and writing the clues is one aspect of the art.
Once the clues are written, hunters in possession of the clues attempt to find the box. In addition to the clue and any maps or tools needed to solve it, the hunter should carry at least a pencil, his personal rubber stamp, an ink pad, and his personal logbook. When the hunter successfully deciphers the clue and finds the box, he stamps the logbook in the box with his personal stamp, and stamps his personal logbook with the box's stamp. The box's logbook keeps a record of all its visitors, and the hunters keep a record of all the boxes they have found, in their personal logbooks.
Follow These Directions to the Letterbox/Cache:
  1. The coords listed above will take you to the start of your short journey (SE corner of Windward Mall Parking Lot).
  2. Once at the posted coords look for and take a short dirt path, it points you in the direction you need to go.
  3. After about 400 feet (as the crow flies) you should reach a sidewalk, turn and head North.
  4. Stop at the point where you find a "unique" view of Mokoli'i (a.k.a Chinaman's Hat). There's a picture below of a "normal" view.
  5. Head directly under that "unique" view and continue walking till you find a place on your left where you can buy some "Phish Food".
  6. Once there, turn right, #508 will be about 20 feet in front of you.
  7. Don't escape before you sign the log.

This Letterbox/Cache is also listed on the LbNA website as LbNA #: 57425 under Box Name #508.

Please remember that this letterbox contains a rubber stamp that is NOT a trade item, it must remain in the cache with the logbook. Letterboxers must bring along their own ink pad if they want to use the stamp.

FYI: It will cost you 2 bits to use #508, but it is not necessary to use it to locate the letterbox/cache.
