Geocache Description:

You are looking for a small lock-n-lock just south of the beach proper. A number of people camp close to the cache site from time to time in the summer months, so use some stealth if needed and please rehide the cache as well as you can.

Redsands Beach has been a frequently used local beach since the 1930's. Due to it's more remote location (while still inside Nelson City limits) and shelter from neighbouring eyes, the beach has been used as a "clothing optional" beach since the 1960's.

Lately, a developer has planned a subdivision close by that could have impacted the beach and had housing built close to it's shores. However, after hearing some objections from locals, it has been decided that Redsands itself shall remain virtually in its natural state, but with the addition of some much needed toilets and a proper legal access. Currently, the only way to legally gain access to the beach is to walk along the shoreline or go by boat. For years, locals have parked on Bealby Point Road or at the end of the former KFP mill site and walked over private property to get there.
