The charming village of Holdenhurst lies at the very edge of Bournemouth, and is home to the Church of St John the Evangelist, which was consecrated and opened for worship on Nov 9th 1834 by the Bishop of Winchester. It was built to replace the old Saxon church which had fallen into disrepair, and to accommodate the increasing population of Holdenhurst.
The font from the old church was due to be placed in the new one, but somehow it was accidentally removed and lost, until it turned up some years later in a garden at Verno, between Hinton Admiral and Christchurch. It has since been restored to its rightful position in Holdenhurst.
At the request of villagers - NO NIGHT CACHING PLEASE! (There has been a recent spate of lead removal from the church roof and the locals are naturally concerned if they see flashing torches in the night).
The published co-ordinates will take you to a small group of graves belonging to various members of the Cooper-Dean family, extensive land owners in past years in the eastern Bournemouth region.
You are looking for two graves of family members with identical names.
The date of birth for the elder of the two is:
AB.CA.CDEA
The date of death for the younger of the two is:
CE.FG.CHEE
The cache is located at:
N 50° B (E-A). CCH
W 001° BH. ACD
The terrain is flat, mostly tarmac, with a little rough grass. There have been issues with the co-ordinates for this cache. It is situated in a grassy area the other side of the lane from the A338.
If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
