jukis&prusak: We have been informed that the castle is now under reconstruction which certainly is good news but unfortunately it also mans that access to the cache is restricted.
Also considering the fact that Preili is so far and we don't happen to be there that often to property maintain the cache we have decided to archive this cache.

Vietas apraksts:
Preiļi kopš 1382.gada piederēja grafu Borhu dzimtai, kura te saimniekoja turpat 500 gadu garumā. Pateicoties šai dzimtai tapis viss tagadējais Preiļu kultūrvēsturiskais cents - agrākais pils komplekss ar parku.
Preiļu pils celta 19.gs. 1.puse, kad pils piederēja grāfam Jozefam Neinriham Borham (1753 - 1835). Viņa dēla Mihaela Borha (1806 - 1881) laikā no 1860. Lidz 1865.gadam pils pēc G.Šahta un A.Belecka projekta pārbūvēta angļu neogotikas stilā. Celtnes asimetriskais apjoms un torņu bagātinātais siluets radīja neparasti gleznainu iespaidu, kuru vel papildināja fasādes plastiskie rotājumi - dekoratīvas joslas un nišās izveidotās skulptūras. Greznos pils interjerus rotāja tumši beicēti ozolkoka paneļi. 1979.gadā ugunsgrēkā cietusī pils ilgstoši stāvēja neizmantota, bet 2004.gadā pašvaldība sākusi meklēt iespējas pils atjaunošanai.
Preiļu pils kapella (celta 1817.gadā) sakopotāji bija bija pils baznīca un grafu Borhu apbedījumu vieta. No neapmestiem laukakmeņiem celtne ir klasicisma arhitektūras piemineklis, kas atbalso kaut ko no Romas Panteona idejas. Padomju periodā izdemolētā celtne tagad ir atjaunota ka dievnams.
Preiļu pils stallis (celts 19.gs. 2.pusē) ir neogotikas stilā no laukakmeņiem celta ēka, kura atbalso pils arhitektūras motīvus un noslēdz pagalma kompozīciju. Pēc Otra pasaules kara neizdemolētā ēka pamazām sabrūk. 2001.gadā veikta drupu konservācija.

Location:
Preili was the long-time fiefdom to the Borhs family who were masters here for 500 years from 1382. Part of their legacy is the current Preili historic and cultural centre – their former castle complex and park.
Preili Castle was built during the first half of 19th century when it belong to Jozef Heinrich Borhs (1753 - 1835). Later, during the tenure of his son Michael Borhs (1806 - 1881) the castle was remodelled between 1860 and 1865 in the fashionable English neogothic style by architects G.Shaht and A.Beleckis. The asymmetric form of the building and prominent decorated towers created the image of a fairytale castle. Mouldings and sculptures in the niches of the facade added extra glamour. The magnificent interior featured sumptuous dark oak panelling. Unfortunately, the castle suffered badly during a fire in 1979 and remained empty for long after. Since 2004 the local council has been actively trying to find the best way to renovate the castle.
Preili Castle Chapel (built in 1817) originally served as the castle’s church and as burial place for the Borhs family. It is a rotunda-type building made from boulders, owing a good deal to the Roman Pantheon. It is a scheduled architectural monument. During Soviet era the chapel was demolished but today it has been renovated for use as a church once more.
Preili Castle Stable (build during second half of 19th century) is a neogothic building constructed from builders in the same style as the castle and completes the compositions of the inner yard. After Word Ward Two the empty building slowly disintegrated. The ruins were conserved in 2001.
