Seeing as there will be a bunch of Bluenosers coming up on Saturday
for the event on Sunday, I thought it would be nice to have an
event for the hangers, the lowly ground dwellers may come as well.
The event will go from 8pm to 10pm at the lower fire pit weather
permitting otherwise it will be held in one of the shelters.
The token Herringchoker will supply the wienies for
roasting.
Orienteering New Brunswick has scheduled two orienteering events
for the weekend of May 21 & 22, 2011at Fundy National Park that
will open to the public.
Orienteering is a sport using a map and compass to navigate to
points that have been mark on the map. The participants can compete
in teams or go as an individual. This is a family orientated sport
that is suitable for the young and old. You can walk or run. These
will be timed events and the challenger will be to find the best
route between controls.
May 21, 2011, Owl-O: This will be a 1 hour long night
orienteering starting at 10:00pm. The venue for this event will be
the Chignecto South campground. There will two courses offered: 1)
One course for those that want to stay on the roads and 2) a second
course with additional controls located in the forest. The
participants will use a light to navigate and find as many controls
as possible in the one hour time limit. The controls will have
reflective tape secured to the controls to make them visible when
they are approached with a light.
May 22, 2011, Fundy Mist: There will two courses offered 1) a
2-hour course and a 4- hour course. The start and finish area for
both events will be the playground area located at the Gulf course
entrance. The start time for both events will be at 1:00pm and
there will be a mass start, i.e., all participants will start off
at the same time. The setting for the 2-hour course will be the
open landscape area located at the start with some controls located
in the hillside above the playground area and some controls will be
located on the trail system in the forest on the east side of
highway 114. The 2 hour course will be designed for families,
beginners and younger orienteer’s that want to use trails and
navigate in the open areas like the bowl. The course map for the
4-hour course will be physically challenging and the controls will
be located in the hillside. This course will be designed for the
experienced navigators. Good map reading and navigational skills
will be required.
