This is the first of eleven caches set close to Avening.
Avening is on the B4014, two miles south east from Nailsworth and three miles north of Tetbury. In the early 19th century, Avening had a number of mills, some dating back to the early 17th century. George’s Mill stood in the field across the main road from the school – nothing remains today.
Overlooking Avening is Gatcombe Park. The house was built by Edward Sheperd in the early 19th century from profits of Uley Mills six miles to the west.
There are three other caches within 500 yards of the parking if you wish to try them they are Church Micro GC24KKM Steps Lane GC1TP9Q Avening GC1Y7QY
Start by heading towards the church from the parking area and go up the narrow path to the right of the churchyard. At the top there is the first of many unusual stiles. Follow the footpath through the gates and bear round to the bottom corner of the field.
Go through the kissing gate and follow the stream for a few yards before you bear left up to the stile in the top corner of the field.
The cache is a 35mm film canister.
